Free Spirit

My Spirit is Free

I believe it is our life’s work to shine ~

My yoga journey began in 2009 and it’s really been a ride back home, to a clear and alive center.

My first yoga class was hot, hard and late (8 pm 😅) in Baltimore, and nothing ever felt so hard and easy at the same time. The movement, the challenge, reeled in my racing mind. I entered a state of pure presence, focused effort; aligned and aware. I felt a centering, a gravity shift from outside to inside.

I found the practice equipping me for life off the mat. Holy hell could break loose outside and inside I could be fine. It is possible to do the really hard things without receiving an Oscar nomination —or even getting involved. In other words, the external world does not hold reigns over my internal world. Whoa.

The journey is really one of untethering— letting go of the scared and scattered mind to see one’s self and the world through more clear and loving eyes. You show up differently when unencumbered. This is freedom and I fell in love with it.

I taught my first yoga class in 2014, and in 2020, I shifted to this work of passion full-time, saying goodbye to my looong-time corporate career (where for years I was Director of Marketing for a digital tech + marketing company). I’ve trained with elite teachers, leading researchers and studios up and down the Northern - Southern California coasts and taught hundreds of hours up and down the west coast. I’ve led numerous teacher trainings, workshops and retreats in the U.S. and internationally and have nurtured dozens of successful yoga teachers across California.

Early on, I was immersed in anatomy, kinesiology, functional movement and neuropsychology. This sparked a personal fire of continuous learning on mindfulness, the beautiful, enigmatic human body and mobility. I am deeply inspired to empower each student to become a skillful captain of his or her own body, the living temple which guides us each through life. I teach to access a flow state, immersing in the flow of breath and movement; to cultivate calmness within, when things get hot and hard on the outside. To operate with grace, always.

Where there is deep awareness, compassion + courage, and lots of breath, anything is possible. This practice transcends the mat, enabling us to untangle and immerse in the dance of this wild, beautiful life.

~ And with this ~ wild dance ~ a ~ new realm ~ emerges. By letting go and shining, we tap into our innate, intuitive super powers. We all have them. And the world needs them! It is simply a matter of tuning-out to tune-in. To live true to who God made us to be. Living from within, not without . . . we are purpose-full.

Off the mat, I live life with an incredible husband, two spirited boys and a mischievous husky, Myla. I’m an NC native, UNC-Chapel Hill alumna, and have lived up and down both beautiful coasts. I love all things dancing, flowing, movement, writing, poetry + grace, and I am deeply inspired by nature and our own humanness.
