The Art of Sequencing

Sequencing is an art. There are numerous ways to arrange, stack, hold, pulse, and alchemize the 100+ postures in the vinyasa lineage to paint an effective, informed, safe and fluid piece of physical art.

I imagine sequencing is a lot like writing music. Within the 12 notes or tones, there are thousands of chords possible and infinite musical possibilities. Similarly, within the limited number of yoga postures available (and anatomically safe, functional movements), infinite sequences can be imagined—countless ways to re-image movement and strengthen or control different anatomy trains, target different spinal movement or muscle-actions, or simply progress to a special grand finale. Sequences may feel entirely different in tone and spirit. Threading yoga postures together breaks boundaries individually each could create.

Teaching the sequence is also an art. I’d imagine in a similar way that composing music is a separate art from performing the composition.

If creating and evolving those dynamic warrior flows—and understanding the biomechanics behind those decisions—is something you want to dive more into in 2022, hit me up.  I LOVE THIS STUFF.
